The Cypress Chapter Points Structure(Quick link to upgrade your point standings) To request your current on-air point value please use the "Contact Us" link to the left of your screen. This page was written to explain how the
Cypress Chapter
uses points towards our various endorsements and awards. Some are new to points collecting so we felt it best to have everything readily available so updates can be AF4QT, 10-10 of 74651, Charlie, Florida, Cypress #2007 worth 349 points. When you claim your points from Charlie you claim his total points if this is your first QSO with him. If it is not your first QSO with him then you can only claim the points he has accumulated since the last time the two of you worked. As an example: AF4QT, 10-10 of 74651, Charlie, Florida, Cypress #2007 worth 349 points. Charlie was worth 300 points the first time the two of you worked and is now worth 349 points. You can only claim the 'new points' total of 49 points towards your own updgrade. This is fine as you collect points from various QSO's you make and they soon begin to add up. POINTS You earn points for interacting with other Cypress Chapter members and your contact is also worth points to the other station as well. For instance, every time you check into the Cypress Chapter net you receive 10 on air points, for every Cypress Chapter meeting you attend you receive another 50 points. So it pays to check into the net and attend the meetings when you are able to so that you can add to your on air point values. Here are some of the ways you can increase your on air points:
The normal point system for our chapter (and that of many other chapters) is 1 "on air point" for every 200 you collect. So if your current point value is 340 points and you work 3 stations: AF4QT who is worth 400 points, KD4WOV is worth 180 points KF4SQ is worth 400 points. You would send in an upgrade and mention to the Certificate Manager that you worked 980 points (the total of the three stations you worked). The Certificate Manager will then take my 980 divide by 200 and give you 4 more "on air points". So your new point value would now be worth 340 plus 4 = 344 points. The next guy that works you says he has 4 new points from you, and X points from the other dozen or so members he works, and the Certificate Manager will use his grand total collected to determine that guy's new total "on air" points. New points, these are points a station did not have the last time you worked them. It's the same as gross points or total points collected, and NET points---points you give out on the air or put on your list to send via email when one works him. The points keep growing as we work more members, so get out there and make some contacts on 10 meters! (Thanks to Dave, K7PRZ for his valuable input and help regarding the use of points in our chapter.) Page updated: June 26, 2008 |
