Net Control OperatorsCypress Chapter Net Control & Alternate Net Control Are you net control material? Ever wanted to run a net but simply don't have the time to devote to an ongoing schedule? Do you have time to devote to the Cypress Chapter net control position but lack training? Before we tackle these questions let's examine what is required to run the Cypress Chapter Net. The size of the Cypress Chapter Net is small enough that even relative newcomers to running a net will find it easy to manage. Our goal here is to share the load amongst several net control operators, allowing each net control operator the opportunity to run the net on an alternating basis. Naturally, the more folks that step up and volunteer as net control operators the less frequently each will have to perform the duties of net control. For example, four net control operators for the Cypress Chapter would mean you would only be running the net once per month! Now those months there's a fifth week involved present opportunities for folks to act as net control once per quarter. If none of these appeal to you then you might consider the Alternate Net Control. The alternate takes on the responsibilities of net control in the event the Net Control operator is unable to handle the net. Going back to what was stated earlier, the more folks who volunteer the less often one person will need to serve. Ten Ten International handles their nets in a manner similar to this, with many different folks acting as net control operators but on different days. Being that the Cypress Chapter will only be held on a weekly basis there will only be a need for net control operators to serve once a week, Ten Ten itself currently runs two nets ( 28.800 & 28.380) per day but using regularly scheduled net control operators. The Cypress Chapter Net Control position will likely never be that intense. What are Net Control's responsibilities? Basically make any important Cypress Chapter or Ten Ten Internationals announcements prior to opening the net for check-ins. Once that is completed then Net Control opens the Cypress Chapter Net for check-ins, once a station is checked in they are given a number representing their place on the check-in list. At times, Net Control may need to request stations to run relays for them. Once Net Controls determines everyone that has attempted to check-in has done so they will start at the top position of the list and instruct the first check-in to give their check-in information and work whatever other calls they are able to work. Once the first check-in has completed making all the calls they wish to make then they will turn the net back over to Net Control, no one from the check-in list are to call anyone else unless Net Control has instructed them to do so. We are working on a script to guide Net Control operators along as they conduct the net. Net Control will close the Cypress Chapter Net once they determine that everyone has made the calls they wish to make. Once Net Control establishes that all stations checked into the net have made their calls and there are no late-coming check-ins then they (Net Control) will close the Cypress Chapter Net. Once Net Control has officially closed the Cypress Chapter they will file their report with Cypress Chapter Certificate Manager. We currently have a convenient online form that Net Control will use to file the report. No writing, mailing, or faxing will be necessary as the online form handles all the email communications. Best part is that Net Control can use this form either during the net (saving the effort of writing the list and then typing it) or the list info can be entered after the conclusion of the Cypress Chapter Net. Our questions to you. Do you have the time to run the Cypress Chapter Net once a month, once a quarter (or even more frequently)? Do you have the time but need some training? Are you interested in helping promote the Cypress Chapter and ultimately the 10 meter band? Then contact us using the Contact Page to the left of your screen and let us know.
